“Pardon me, my lord,” Gideon replied, “but how can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family.”
— Judges 6:15
Of late, maybe like me, you’ve noticed how many people online are saying, “aki sioni… I can’t see any hope anymore.” Some type it out in a post, others say it in hushed tones. A close friend even confessed they feel like dipping out, walking away from it all.
And if we are honest, we have all been there—moments when life feels heavy, when our own voice tells us “we are not enough.”
Gideon stood in that same place. When the angel of the Lord called him, Gideon’s immediate response was not confidence, but weakness. He looked at his family background, his clan’s reputation, his own insecurity, and concluded: “Mimi ni the least, the weakest, the one who doesn’t qualify.”
But here’s the beauty of God: He never defines us by our lowest point. Where Gideon said, “I am weak,” God answered, “You are a mighty warrior.” Where Gideon said, “aki sioni how this can work,” God already saw victory ahead.
Many times, we measure ourselves through the lens of our fears and failures. We count what we don’t have. We rehearse what people have said about us. But God steps in with a different narrative—He calls us to rise, not because we are strong, but because He is with us.
Maybe right now you feel like hiding, just like Gideon threshing wheat in secret, afraid of tomorrow. But the same God who spoke courage into Gideon is speaking into your heart today.
He is not asking you to be the strongest; He is asking you to trust Him. His presence is enough to shift you from fear to faith, from despair to determination.
So, when your heart whispers, “aki sioni,” remember this: God sees. He sees your tears, your battles, your weariness. But more than that, He sees the warrior inside you that you’ve not yet discovered. Don’t quit on yourself. Don’t walk away from your own story. The hand of God is still shaping it.
If Gideon, the weakest in his family, could be lifted to lead a nation into freedom, then so can you rise above what is pressing you down. What you see as the end, God calls the beginning.
Maze, don’t give up. Even if Huoni—He sees, He knows, and He is with you.
