“The Lord is my chosen portion and my cup; you hold my lot.
The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance.” — Psalm 16:5–6
Life does not always feel like “pleasant places,” does it?
There are seasons when the ground beneath us feels more like gravel than green pasture. Moments when prayers seem to echo rather than land. Days when loss, uncertainty, or pain sit heavy on the chest like an uninvited guest who refuses to leave.
And yet, right here in Psalm 16, we hear something almost startling. Not denial. Not naïve optimism. But a deep, anchored declaration:
“The Lord is my portion… you hold my lot.”
David is not saying life is easy. He is saying something far more powerful: God is enough—even when life is not.
To say “The Lord is my portion” is to say, “What I have in God outweighs what I lack in life.” It is the language of trust forged in fire, not comfort found in ease.
Because let’s be honest—tribulation has a way of shaking us. It rattles our sense of control. It exposes how fragile our plans really are. We think we’re holding everything together… until something falls apart.
But David flips that perspective. He says, “You hold my lot.”
Not I hold my future.
Not circumstances hold my destiny.
But God holds my lot.
Even when life feels like scattered puzzle pieces, God sees the full picture. Even when we feel like we’re slipping, we are still held.
There is a quiet, stubborn comfort in that truth.
You may walk through valleys where nothing makes sense. You may endure nights that feel longer than they should, unajikuta unazunguka zunguka kwa Kitanda, Hmmm, saa zingine life..tu…🥺🥺🥺 You may face moments where faith feels less like a song and more like a whisper.
But being held by God does not mean you won’t fall into hardship. It means you won’t fall out of His hands.
And then David says something even more surprising:
“The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places… I have a beautiful inheritance.”
How can he say that?
Because David isn’t measuring life only by what he sees—he’s measuring it by what God has promised.
There is an inheritance that goes beyond this world. A future untouched by suffering. A joy that doesn’t flicker. A peace that doesn’t crack under pressure.
This is the assurance for every believer: this life, with all its hardships, is not the final chapter.
Pain is real—but it is temporary.
Loss is real—but it is not ultimate.
Struggle is real—but it is not eternal.
God’s goodness is not canceled by our circumstances. It runs deeper than them.
Think of it like roots beneath a tree. Storms may thrash the branches, winds may bend the trunk—but the roots hold firm. Hidden, steady, unshaken.
God’s goodness is like that—often unseen in the moment, but always sustaining us underneath.
So what does it mean to trust God through tribulation?
It means choosing to believe that His character is consistent, even when our situation is chaotic.
It means holding onto the truth that He is good—not because life feels good, but because He does not change.
It means saying, even through tears:
“God, I don’t understand this… but I trust You are still holding me.”
And maybe today, that’s where you are.
Maybe life doesn’t feel like “pleasant places.” Maybe it feels uncertain, heavy, or even unfair.
Then let this Psalm be your quiet anchor:
You are not abandoned.
You are not forgotten.
You are not holding your life together alone.
The Lord is your portion.
He holds your lot.
And beyond every valley, beyond every unanswered question, beyond every temporary sorrow—there is a beautiful inheritance waiting.
Not earned. Not fragile. Not fading.
Kept. Secured. Promised.
So stand, even if your voice trembles.
Trust, even if your heart feels tired.
Hold on, because you are held.
And the One who holds you?
He is good—yesterday, today, and forever.‼️

My grandmother told me the other day, “In Jachir” the only explanation I give to friends and family, Is that God has been with me and as you have said, Having God outweighs what I lack in life.
Thank you for reminding us this.
Waaau encouraging reminder
All to Jesus and John 15:5 and keep hope on God He’s able 🙏 🙏
