“So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.” — Galatians 5:16 (NIV)
There’s great joy in walking in step with the Holy Spirit. God’s desire for us is clear—He longs for His children to walk in His will, guided by His Spirit, anchored in His truth, and shaped by His love. The path He offers brings life, peace, and purpose.
But we often face a choice.
Picture a charcoal jiko. When well-used, it cooks, warms, and serves. But if poorly managed, it produces carbon monoxide—silent, invisible, and deadly. It’s a useful tool, yet without proper care, it becomes harmful.
That’s a powerful image of what happens when we let sin rule our lives. Like the jiko releasing poison, a life ruled by the enemy slowly emits things that destroy—bitterness, pride, lust, greed, and selfishness. These things may not be seen immediately, but they choke life, relationships, and even our sense of purpose.
God has given us the ability to choose. We can walk by the Spirit and bear the fruit of love, joy, peace, and patience—or we can follow the desires of the flesh, and slowly lose ourselves.
You and I choose what we become. Every day is a decision—will I be a vessel of life or a source of hidden harm?
Choose wisely. Walk with the Spirit. Let Him light your fire, not your fumes.
