“In the spring, at the time when kings go off to war, David sent Joab… But David remained in Jerusalem. One evening David got up from his bed and walked around on the roof of the palace…” — 2 Samuel 11:1–2 (NIV)
David’s downfall didn’t begin with Bathsheba. It started with comfort, idleness, and absence—being in the wrong place at a time when he should’ve been at the battlefront. He lingered on the rooftop, and that moment of spiritual passivity opened a door to a lifetime consequence.
- What’s your gorofa?
- Where have you stayed too long?
- What rooftop have you made home while your calling waits at the battlefield?
During our revival, Rt. Rev. Matui’s words pierced deeply: “Even when we leave God’s presence, we know it… we do.” That truth haunts. Because we feel the drift.
We know when our prayers dry up. When Scripture becomes routine. When bitterness is easier than forgiveness. When lust disguises itself as “harmless scrolling.”,
I kept asking myself, What should I toka from?
- Toka kwa complacency.
- Toka kwa hidden sin.
- Toka kwa procrastinated obedience.
- Toka kwa distractions masquerading as opportunities.
It’s not too late. David’s story didn’t end on that rooftop. Neither does yours. The God of revival is also the God of return.
Today, take one step down from the rooftop. Walk back into His presence. Return to the battlefield.
Say this Prayer:
Lord, show me the rooftops I’ve lingered on. Awaken me from spiritual sleep. Draw me back to where I’m supposed to be—near You, in purpose, in obedience. Amen.
