THE VOICE THAT YOU CAN NO LONGER IGNORE

“The Lord came and stood there, calling as at the other times, ‘Samuel! Samuel!’ Then Samuel said, ‘Speak, for your servant is listening.'”1 Samuel 3:10 (NIV)

Samuel… Samuel… Samuel…

This young boy, heard his name called several times and thought it was the Priest, but no, it was God.

Many would ask, though, Does God still speaks to date? Today? He does, He surely does.

Now, the real Question should be, are you aware enough, alert enough to hear Him speak?

You see, you and me have crowded our lives with so much noise and if it’s not noise, it’s so much distraction, that hearing the Still Voice would take a Miracle.

Samuel was not far from God. In fact, he was sleeping in the house of the Lord. Yet even in God’s house, he mistook God’s voice for that of a man. That alone should challenge us. You can be around church, around ministry, around spiritual things, and still struggle to recognize when God is speaking. Hearing God is not simply about proximity. It is about sensitivity.

Today, our lives have become louder than ever before. We wake up to notifications before we whisper a prayer. We spend hours scrolling through our phones, responding to messages, watching videos and chasing deadlines. Even when there is silence around us, our minds are still crowded. We have become so accustomed to noise that silence almost feels uncomfortable. Yet it is often in the quiet places that God speaks the loudest.

God is a Faithful Father that never ever let’s us go. He says He never leaves us nor forsakes us.

What would make you think He has let you alone or that you are doing this life alone?

The God who called Samuel is the very same God who walks with us today. He has not retired from speaking. He has not become distant. He has not stopped directing His children. He still speaks through His Word. He still speaks through His Holy Spirit. He still speaks through godly counsel. He still speaks through circumstances that He orchestrates. Sometimes He whispers peace. Sometimes He brings conviction. Sometimes He simply says, “Wait.” Other times He says, “Go.” But He is always speaking.

The question has never been whether God speaks. The question has always been whether we are listening.

What is one of our greatest stressors in our life today? Tell you what, ni saa zile simu imekosa network. You can’t make calls, receive calls na sana sana, Mpesa notifications huwezi pata. We become restless. We move around looking for signal. We restart our phones. We complain because we hate feeling disconnected.

That’s us today.

We become so concerned when we lose connection with the world, yet sometimes we go days without noticing we’ve lost connection with Heaven. We survive on weak spiritual signals and wonder why we feel directionless. Maybe the issue isn’t that God isn’t speaking. Maybe the issue is that our hearts are tuned to every other frequency except His.

Today, I challenge myself, and I hope you carry the challenge too. Am I alert enough to hear as God gives direction to this life… to my life? Am I making room for Him to speak? Am I slowing down enough to recognize His voice?

Am I willing to pause long enough to say, just as Samuel did, “Speak, Lord, for Your servant is listening.”

Perhaps God has been calling your name all along. Through His Word. Through a sermon. Through a friend. Through a closed door. Through an unexpected opportunity. Through that gentle conviction that refuses to leave your heart.

He is still speaking.

The invitation today is not for God to speak louder. The invitation is for us to become quieter. May our daily prayer forever remain,

“Speak, Lord, for Your servant is listening.”

For when God speaks, destinies are shaped. When God speaks, fear gives way to faith. When God speaks, confusion gives way to clarity. When God speaks, closed doors make sense, open doors become opportunities, and ordinary people become vessels for extraordinary purposes. His voice has never lost its power. The only question that remains is this:

When He calls your name… will you be listening?
