“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.” – Proverbs 3:5–6 (NIV)

One of the conversations I genuinely look forward to, whenever they happen, is with my Thrift T-shirt guy—Brian….. The Lad is Young, Focused, and remarkably Driven. I’ve watched Him grow from a simple trader who sources from Gikomba to a visionary with big dreams and a clear sense of direction. He tells me how he saved up and bought land in Elburgon, and now he speaks with deep conviction about “An Empire,” the company he plans to establish in the next four to five years. When Brian talks, you don’t just hear ambition—you hear purpose, strategy, and faith working hand in hand.

Kwani Hujui that success is not always about where you start, but about what fuels you to keep going? Brian’s passion is infectious. In my view, He has a serious strategic plan, knows exactly how to get there, and is working tirelessly to make it happen. What inspires me most is his self-awareness—he knows his limitations, acknowledges the challenges, yet refuses to let them define him. He wakes up as early as 3:00 a.m. on his restocking days, fights through the cold, the crowd, and the chaos of Gikomba, just to ensure that by 9:00 a.m., he is back at his stall ready to serve his customers.

Kwani Hujui that true greatness is not an event but a journey marked by trust and total dependence on God? Brian understands this deeply. He knows that his hustle alone isn’t enough. As he often says, “Mungu ndio ananiwezesha” — “It’s God who enables me.” That statement carries weight.

It’s a reminder that we can plan, we can work, but unless the Lord establishes our steps, our efforts remain in vain.

Kwani Hujui who enables you? Who gives you the strength when your energy runs low? Who renews your zeal when doors seem shut and progress feels slow? It’s easy to lean on our understanding, to trust in what we know or what we have, but Proverbs 3:5–6 calls us higher—to trust in the Lord with all our hearts. When we surrender our plans to Him, He aligns them to His perfect will and makes our paths straight.

Kwani Hujui that the same God who lifted David from the field to the throne, who raised Joseph from the pit to the palace, is still in the business of directing steps today?

The same God who gave Brian vision and favor can also breathe life into your dreams. So, the next time you find yourself striving and straining, pause and remember: lean not on your own understanding.

Your Empire, your calling, your tomorrow—they are possible, not because of who you are, but because of who He is.
