“Then the Lord said to Abraham, ‘Why did Sarah laugh and say, “Will I really have a child, now that I am old?” Is anything too hard for the Lord? I will return to you at the appointed time next year, and Sarah will have a son.’” — Genesis 18:13–14 (NIV)
Have you ever been told something so good, so unexpected, that you laughed — not because it was funny, but because it felt too good to be true? Maybe a promise so far beyond your reality that your first reaction wasn’t faith, but disbelief. Sarah did exactly that.
At nearly ninety years old, Sarah overheard the angels tell Abraham that she would have a son. The thought alone must have sounded absurd — her body was long past childbearing, her husband was old, and the years of waiting had dulled her hope. So she laughed. Not a mocking laugh, but one born out of weariness, out of years of silent disappointment. Yet, even in her laughter, God heard faith buried deep beneath the disbelief — the part of her that still longed to believe that maybe, just maybe, it was still possible.
Sometimes, God speaks promises that sound too big for where we are. He tells you that you will own that business, restore that relationship, carry that child, or move nations — and yet, when you look at your current state, it feels laughable.
But just as God reminded Sarah, He reminds us too: “Is anything too hard for the Lord?”
That question wasn’t meant to shame Sarah; it was meant to awaken her faith. It was a gentle reminder that time, biology, and logic do not limit the God who created them. What seemed impossible was merely pending in heaven’s timing.
So, what about you? Imagine the wildest dream, the highest version of your vision — the thing that feels beyond reach. If God told you it could happen tomorrow, how would you respond? Would you laugh in disbelief, or would you cry in awe of His power?
Sarah’s laughter didn’t disqualify her; it became part of her testimony. And when Isaac was born, his name — which means “laughter” — became a constant reminder that what once felt absurd became evidence of God’s faithfulness.
Today, dare to believe again. Your laughter of disbelief can turn into laughter of joy. The same God who turned Sarah’s “impossible” into a child in her arms is still in the business of making dreams come true — right on time.
