ZIENDE ZIKIENDAGA

“Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.” — Proverbs 19:21 (NIV)

A very, very long time ago — underline, a long time ago — hata sikuwa nimeanza tertiary education, or maybe I had just begun. So, there I was, head over heels about a particular daughter of The Most High God. You know that kind of focus that makes a 20-year-old young man wake up early, dress neatly, and act all spiritual? Eeh, that was me — nimejitolea kisabuni, ready to impress and conquer. Sema kuhata! 😅

Anyway, lets fast forward the story, my “focal point” meets one of my close friends — those days we called them Best Friends — and she gives him a list of all the guys who were, let’s say, “showing interest.” My good friend, being a loyal informer, comes back to me with the list. “Bro,” he says, “No.1 ni fulani, No.2 ni huyu, No.3 ni huyu…” I’m there smiling, waiting for my name —

Guess, what No I was, Shock on me! I was nowhere on that list. Not even a mention. My guy looks at me and says, “Kijana, songa. Pale una waste time. Hata top five hauko.”

That day, I learnt a powerful phrase: mafeelings ziende zikiendaga.

Have you ever watched someone feel left out and assume it meant they weren’t enough? Have you ever seen them shrink, question themselves, wonder why doors kept closing? And then later — only later — they realized God was not rejecting them at all. He was redirecting them. He wasn’t denying them; He was delivering them from what was never meant to hold them, shape them, or define them.

Have you ever considered that what feels like loss could actually be God’s protection?
Have you ever asked whether the closed door was actually grace in disguise?

You see, in life, you may really want something — a person, a job, an opportunity — and you put your whole heart into it. But God, in His wisdom, may be beckoning you yonder, to something better, something higher, something more beautiful. Sema kutafuta Bonga Points… Hehehe.

Sometimes God allows a door to close so He can lead you to the right one. Sometimes He lets people walk away because they can’t go where He’s taking you. And sometimes, He lets your plans fail so that His purpose can prevail.

When that happens, don’t fight it. Don’t force it. Just whisper to yourself, “Wache ziende zikiendaga.” Because whatever leaves your life when you’re walking with God was never meant to anchor you — it was meant to teach you.

Today, pause for a moment and look back at the things you thought you couldn’t live without — the relationships, the opportunities, the plans that never worked out. Can you see how God was protecting and preparing you?

He is still doing the same today. So instead of mourning over what didn’t work, celebrate what God is working on.

Because in God’s script, nothing is wasted. Every closed door, every heartbreak, every missed opportunity — it’s all leading you to a story of Grace, Growth, and Glory.

So next time something slips through your hands, smile and say —
“Wache ziende zikiendaga — for my God never mismanages my life.”
