SO, WHY WILL HE FAIL YOU?

“Lord,” Martha said to Jesus, “if you had been here, my brother would not have died. But even now I know that God will give you whatever you ask.” John 11:21-22

During our Wedding a few years ago, many of my Friends and Family know what happened that beautiful day, a day filled with laughter, joy, celebration, dancing, prayers, blessings, photographs, hugs, and countless memories that we shall forever treasure, yet a day that ended with our Car being stolen, on that very same day. I remember very vividly being called by a group of Men while we were next to the Borrowed Car we were in, headed for our Dinner After Party. There was no better way for my Elder Bro, popularly known as Kabush, to tell me what had happened. I could see it on his face before he even spoke. The news itself was unbelievable. The celebration had not even settled, the wedding clothes were still fresh, guests were still around, congratulations were still coming in, yet suddenly we were talking about a stolen car. It almost felt unreal, almost like one of those stories that happen to other people until it becomes your own.

You see, the funny thing is that after getting that car, I had driven with it all the way to Mombasa for a new posting in 2017 and had never driven it back to Nairobi. It had faithfully served me, covered long distances, seen different seasons of life, and on that particular trip to Nairobi, it had come for something that was meant to make it even safer. It had come that time round to have an Anti-theft Car Tracking System installed. That was the whole reason it was there. Looking back, the irony still amazes me. The very thing that was supposed to receive protection disappeared before the protection itself could be installed. But lo and behold, by the time everything unfolded, it had already gotten new owners. Na si tuliitafauta. We searched. We asked questions. We followed leads. We hoped every phone call would bring good news. We imagined every possible outcome. Na pengine ilikuwa ishakata katwa uko Bunyala. Haaaa. That is how life sometimes unfolds. Some situations never make sense to us. Some losses leave more questions than answers. Some prayers seem to meet silence. Some disappointments arrive on days we least expect them, on days that should have been remembered only for celebration.

But even in that, why would you think that God will fail us? He did not.

The loss of a car never became the loss of our faith, It allowed God to move us, back then to the pictured Xtrail, a Car that I loved with my Heart, but nayo, ilitunyonya pesa , Repair za iyo gari, Whueeh…. sio shilingi mbili… The disappointment of that day never became the disappointment of God’s faithfulness. We still had our marriage. We still had our lives. We still had our families. We still had His presence. We still had His promises. Looking back today, I can confidently say that while we lost something valuable, we never lost the One who truly mattered. God remained exactly who He has always been. Faithful. Present. Unchanging. Sovereign.

When I read about Martha and Mary of Bethany, I cannot help but understand their emotions. They had sent word to Jesus early enough. They believed He would come. They knew what He was capable of doing. They had seen His miracles before. Yet Jesus delayed. Every hour that passed must have felt heavier than the previous one. Hope slowly turned into confusion. Confusion slowly turned into grief. Then Lazarus died. From a human point of view, it looked finished. It looked like Jesus had come too late. Martha herself said, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.” It is a statement that many of us have silently said in different ways. Lord, if You had come sooner. Lord, if You had answered earlier. Lord, if You had opened that door. Lord, if You had prevented that loss. Lord, if You had changed that diagnosis. Lord, if You had stopped that pain.

But then comes one statement that changes everything.

EVEN NOW.

Those two words refuse to let circumstances have the final say. Those two words refuse to let disappointment write the ending. Those two words remind us that God’s timing does not stop being God’s timing simply because ours has expired. Martha says, “But even now I know…” She still believed. She still trusted. She still recognized that Jesus had not run out of possibilities simply because people had run out of hope.

Ooooh blessed be the Name of the Lord Most High.

That statement has stayed with me because life will always present moments where everything appears to be over. There will be seasons when opportunities disappear, relationships break, finances dry up, dreams seem delayed, prayers appear unanswered, and doors close before we even get to them. Yet the testimony of Scripture continues to whisper the same truth. Even now. Even now God can restore. Even now He can provide. Even now He can heal. Even now He can make a way.

Even now He can open another door. Even now He can redeem what looked permanently lost. Even now He remains God.

So, why will He fail you?

If He has remained faithful through seasons you thought you would never survive, why would He abandon you now? The circumstances may change. People may disappoint. Plans may fail. Resources may disappear. But God has never changed. He is still the same yesterday, today, and forever.

Our wedding day remains one of the happiest days of our lives. Yes, a car was stolen. Yes, we searched. Yes, we laughed later about how the anti-theft system never got its chance. But above all those details stands a greater testimony. God did not fail us then, and He has not failed us since.

What looked like silence was actually divine timing. What looked like the end became the stage upon which God’s glory would be displayed.

The same God has not changed.

Joseph must have wondered many times whether God had forgotten him. Betrayed by his own brothers, sold into slavery, falsely accused by Potiphar’s wife, imprisoned for a crime he never committed, forgotten by the cupbearer after faithfully interpreting his dream, Joseph experienced one disappointment after another. Every chapter of his life seemed to move further away from the dreams God had given him as a young man. Humanly speaking, it looked as though God had failed him. Yet every prison cell became preparation for the palace. Every betrayal became a step toward God’s greater purpose. Every delay was quietly positioning Joseph exactly where he needed to be. Years later, standing before the very brothers who had sold him, Joseph could confidently say, “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good.” God had not failed him. Not for one single day. Even in the silence, God was working. Even in the waiting, God was arranging events that Joseph himself could never have orchestrated.

Then there is Daniel.

Taken captive into Babylon, removed from everything familiar, forced into a foreign culture, pressured to abandon his convictions, Daniel could easily have questioned whether God had abandoned His people. Yet Daniel chose faithfulness over compromise. His enemies plotted against him, manipulated the king, and eventually had him thrown into the lions’ den. If ever there was a moment that looked like certain defeat, that was it. A night surrounded by hungry lions should have been the end of Daniel’s story. But God had never left the den. Before Daniel ever entered it, God had already prepared his deliverance. The lions could open their mouths, but they could not touch God’s servant because Heaven had already spoken. The next morning, Daniel walked out alive, while the king himself declared the greatness of Daniel’s God. The den was never proof that God had failed. It became proof that God was present.

The same pattern appears throughout Scripture.

And if you are reading this while carrying your own unanswered questions, your own disappointments, your own delayed prayers, or your own losses, remember Martha’s words.

If He has carried you this far, why will He suddenly stop? If He has sustained you through every previous storm, why would this one be different?

EVEN NOW.

So, why will He fail you?

He never failed Joseph.

He never failed Daniel.

He never failed Martha and Mary.

He never failed Lazarus.

He has never failed His Church.

He has never broken a single promise.

And He will not start with you.

Even now, He won’t fail us.

He won’t fail you.

Even now, He won’t fail us.

He won’t fail you.
