UNCONVENTIONAL

“ ‘For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways My ways,’ declares the Lord.
‘As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are My ways higher than your ways
and My thoughts than your thoughts.’ ” — Isaiah 55:8-9 (NIV)

Yaani—when Jesus set out to heal the man born blind (John 9:1-11), He did something strange: He bent down, mixed His own saliva with dust, and made mud. As our brother MC Evans joked at Rehoboth Fellowship this past Wednesday, “alimuongeza kuwa kipofu zaidi”—He seemed to make the darkness thicker before the light could break in.

Yet hidden in that muddy moment is a powerful lesson: God is not bound to the ordinary rules of life.

What looks like delay, detour, or even deterioration can be the exact material He uses to reveal His glory.

1. The Method That Makes No Sense

Imagine the scene. People expect a word of command or a gentle touch, but Jesus chooses spit and soil. Mud in damaged eyes feels like insult added to injury—yet it is holy soil, because the Potter is reshaping the clay (Genesis 2:7 echoes here). Often, the Lord allows messy processes—redundancy papers, hospital corridors, unanswered emails—so that when breakthrough finally comes, no one can steal His credit. His way is the better Way; it’s the High Way.

2. The Walk That Required Blind Faith

After applying the mud, Jesus tells the man, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam.” Now, this brother has never seen daylight, and with mud pasted on, vision is even more impossible. Alafu kuzidi, how does he find that pool? Likely he stumbles forward, guided by familiar voices, tapping walls, trusting the buzz of the crowd heading to the water source. Obedience sometimes precedes clarity. God may not explain every step, but He always directs the willing heart.

3. The Sight That Changes Stories

The man washes, and suddenly daylight floods in. Neighbors who once led him now ask him for directions. The same eyes society called defective become living billboards of divine power. When God moves unconventionally in your life—through unexpected transfers, surprising friendships, or “mud” moments—He isn’t embarrassing you; He’s setting the stage for a testimony that will leave onlookers speechless.

This weekend I leave you with three questions to reflect on;

1. Where are you resisting God’s muddy method?
2. Who are the “voices” guiding you to Siloam?
3. How will today’s unconventional step magnify tomorrow’s praise?

Don’t despise the muddy moments. In God’s hands, the unconventional is often the corridor to undeniable glory.
