COURAGE… DO NOT STUMBLE

“I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.” — Psalm 121:1–2

The background of this Psalm is often linked to the pilgrim’s journey to Jerusalem.

As travelers walked the rugged paths toward the holy city, their eyes naturally lifted to the surrounding hills. These hills could be places of danger—where bandits hid, where fatigue set in, and where uncertainty grew.

Yet the psalmist reminds the pilgrim: help does not come from the hills, but from the Lord who made them. In moments of weakness, fear, or stumbling, the promise is clear: God is our help.

So today, hear the call: Courage brother, courage sister, do not stumble… because we have divine help. Let us consider three truths about our help.

1. Our Help Has Come

The pilgrim did not look forward to a help that might appear someday, but to a God who was already present. Christ Himself is the fulfillment of this promise—Emmanuel, God with us.

At Calvary, He came near to lift us from sin, shame, and despair. When we call upon Him, He is not distant; He has already come into our situation.
Brother, sister, whatever you are walking through—be it uncertainty about tomorrow, family pressures, or personal battles—know this:

help is not “on the way,” help has already arrived in the person of Jesus. You do not walk the valley alone.

2. Our Help is Reliable

Unlike human promises that fade, God’s help is steadfast. Psalm 121 continues, “He who watches over you will not slumber…The Lord will keep you from all harm.” This means that His assistance is not occasional but continuous.

Think of a shepherd watching sheep: his eyes are always scanning, his staff ready to guide and protect.

In the same way, God’s help does not falter when we stumble or grow weary. He neither forgets nor grows tired. His reliability becomes our courage.

So, do not stumble in despair when the night seems long—your help is awake even when you sleep.

3. Our Help is Sustainable

There are forms of help that only cover today, but God’s help is for all seasons. The psalmist closes with this assurance: “The Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.”
God’s help is not a quick fix; it sustains us through every stage of life—youth and age, health and sickness, joy and grief.

What He begins, He sustains, and what He sustains, He brings to completion. Unlike worldly solutions that drain us, His grace renews us daily.

Brother, sister, courage—do not stumble—for you are held by a help that will never run dry.

In Closing allow me to say:

Lift your eyes today. Do not be overwhelmed by the hills of challenges before you.

Remember: Our help has come, our help is reliable, and our help is sustainable. Therefore, walk with courage. Take the next step in faith, knowing the Maker of heaven and earth upholds you.

Courage brother, courage sister—do not stumble, your Helper is with you..🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
