UTAZIBEBA SAFARI YOTE

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

The other day, I had been lifted to a destination close to Ukambani — and let me not even begin to describe the joto over there at our cousins’ place! But something interesting happened on that trip. When I entered this vehicle, I was absolutely awe-struck by the technology inside. For about 20 minutes, I just sat there marveling, exploring every button and feature, completely taken by how advanced it was.

Funny thing is, in all that amazement, I never noticed that I was still holding onto my luggage. I hadn’t even set my bags down. So, after a few minutes of driving, my friend looked at me and laughed. “Bazu,” he said, “utaenda hii safari yote kama umejibebea mzigo na uko ndani ya gari?”

I laughed too, but those words hit deeper than he probably realized. Isn’t that how we often are with God?

We’re so amazed by who He is — His power, His love, His grace, His mercy — but we never come to the place of surrender. We enter into His presence, yet still cling tightly to the baggage of our fears, worries, regrets, and control. We sing of His goodness while carrying the weight of what He’s already offered to take.

We sit inside the “vehicle of grace,” but we’re still holding our own suitcases — as though God can carry us but not what we carry.

Jesus didn’t invite us to simply admire His presence; He invited us to rest in it. He says, “Come to me… and I will give you rest.” Not “stand beside me with your load,” not “sit in my grace while still struggling,” but “give it to Me.”

There’s a kind of peace that only comes after surrender. It’s not found in knowing about God, but in trusting Him enough to release what’s in your hands. When we let go, we find that the journey becomes lighter, smoother, and filled with joy.

Maybe today, you’re already “in the car” — you know Christ, you love Him, you’re walking with Him — but you’re still holding something heavy: anxiety about the future, guilt from the past, fear of letting go.

The invitation today is simple: Put the bag down.

Let Him drive, let Him carry, let Him lead. Because the One who called you to the journey already knows the destination — and His grace is strong enough to carry both you and your load.
