Behold, I will do a new thing,
Now it shall spring forth;
Shall you not know it?
I will even make a road in the wilderness
And rivers in the desert. Isaiah 43:19
One of my very consistent Readers, was telling me jana, I am remembering very old stories, so in that regard I want to crown the year with this one, has been a favorite story to tell, when I was taken to Nursery school – was it called – Lion of Judah, I guess so. It was ran by a Catholic Church, under a Fr. Robert. One time, I was so tired of carrying my exercise books, so the little boy in me, came dragging the bag on the road, like a Toy Car.
Please do not laugh at me, so, kumbe zip ya Bag ilifunguka and my books fell. So when I got home, I had lost most of my books. So later in the evening I was questioned where my books were, and so confidently I lied, they had gotten lost in school or something of the sort. No sooner had I lied, than the Local Shopkeeper came: (na niulize mbona wao hukuwa na udaku ivo?). Masai came and told Mum that he was watching me coming home playfully and as I dragged the bag that was unopened, haa, he hadn’t finished that story, I interjected with so much confidence, aaah Masai, kumbe ni wewe uliiba vitabu zangu. The One who was saving the situation, I was brandishing him a Thief. I’ll be back to this story shortly
We have come to the Close of the Year and today, in our Motherland is Jamhuri Day, when we attained our Independence, Hoiyee Kenya! But I want to leave you with this thought, The Lord is doing a new thing to all who believe in Him, are you seeing it? do you perceive it? Forget the former, Allow Him do the New. Let go of the past, allow the New.
Back to the Notorious boy, I realize how easy it is for us to drag old seasons the same way that small boy in me dragged that bag. You drag what has already served its time, you drag what is already tearing, you drag habits, hurts, fears, and even expired mindsets, thinking you are just moving along. But if you pay attention, you will notice things falling out, opportunities dropping, relationships shredding, clarity scattering, and by the time you get “home,” you can barely explain what happened. Sometimes you even lie to yourself, “I lost it along the way,” when truth is, you were dragging something God asked you to carry differently or release entirely.
And let me tell you, God will always send a “Masai” moment in your life. That one interruption that exposes what you have been pretending about, covering, or trying to make sense of in your own head. That moment where God says, “Stop blaming what is not to blame. Stop accusing what is innocent. Stop spinning stories to justify what you should have surrendered.”
Because before God announces the New, He confronts the Old. Before He opens the wilderness path, He exposes the baggage. Before He makes rivers in the desert, He shows you where you have been spilling the water He gave you.
Isaiah 43:19 is not a suggestion. It is a Divine Declaration. Behold, I am doing a new thing. Not will do. Not might do. Not when the year turns. Not when you feel ready. He says I am doing — present tense, active, ongoing, unpausing, unrelenting.
The question is not about God’s ability. The question is about our perception. Do you not perceive it?
Because God can do a new thing, and you completely miss it simply because you are still reporting to an old season with a bag you should have emptied or let go.
This is where we separate nostalgia from obedience. Some former things are beautiful memories, yes, but some former things are chains dressed as comfort. Some former things are familiar but draining. Some former things are predictable but suffocating. And God, in His mercy, loves us enough to disrupt what we have normalized.
The new thing is not just a blessing; it is an interruption. It is a Divine redirection. It is God saying, “That road you are dragging things on, I am about to make a way in that wilderness. That dry area in your life, I am about to release rivers. But I need your hands empty. I need your heart open. I need your perception awakened.”
As we celebrate Independence, would you make it spiritual. The Lord wants you independent from cycles that drain you, mindsets that belittle you, habits that sabotage you, fear that freezes you, and excuses that keep you stuck. Independence in God is not rebellion; it is surrender. It is telling Him, “Lord, I release the former so I can recognize the new.”
This is the close of the year, yes, but it is not the close of God’s activity in your life. He is still moving. He is still speaking. He is still opening ways in places you had written off. He is still making rivers where you only saw dust. He is still stirring your spirit to see beyond the familiar. And you don’t have to manufacture your own miracle. You don’t have to manipulate outcomes. You don’t have to drag old seasons trying to make them work again. Just perceive what God is already doing. Just open your eyes to the new thing forming, the new strength rising, the new clarity settling, the new grace unfolding.
So as you step into the remainder of this year, walk with this in your heart: The Lord is doing a new thing — behold it. Not yesterday’s news. Not last year’s breakthroughs. Not stories you have replayed for years. The New. Fresh. God-breathed. Heaven-authored. Step into it with awareness. Step into it with expectation. Step into it with freedom.
Let go of the past, allow the New. God is already ahead of you. He has already begun. Behold it.
